The 2019 Gartner IT Infrastructure, Operations & Cloud Strategies Conference (GartnerIOCS) was held at The Venetian in Las Vegas the week of December 9, 2019. Nearly 3,500 attendees, including members of the Expedient team, participated and learned about new trend analysis in cloud and IT infrastructure.

The Expedient team regularly attends conferences in order to remain current with the role that new technologies play in our pursuit of enabling clients to achieve desired business outcomes. For the first time, the company sponsored the conference and staffed an exhibitor booth in the expo hall alongside more than 120 others. Several team members had conversations with hundreds of organizations from around the country about the challenges and opportunities that their teams are coping with – and how Expedient solutions such as Enterprise Cloud and Push Button DR can accelerate their capabilities for the future and give them time back to focus on the most strategic objectives that will drive growth in their businesses.

Guided by the latest impartial Gartner research – and input from infrastructure & operations leaders from companies in a variety of industries — the event explores what makes a successful strategy – from cloud, IoT, to artificial intelligence, automation and machine learning. Attendees at GartnerIOCS see how to accelerate innovation and agility in a hybrid world and enable a digital future. Built on forward-thinking infrastructure & operations research, the 2019 conference provided hands-on, how-to advice.

A significant theme of this year’s conference was how IT infrastructure and operations are poised for disruption as more organizations push through digital transformation in pursuit of the agility and resilience needed to deliver exceptional client experiences. The Gartner team offered four tracks of learning that can be best summarized as:

  • Leadership Development – best practices to prepare workers for the increased agility required to meet future needs by embracing collaboration and personal empowerment
  • Cloud Strategies – the benefits of cost and resource optimization to balance cloud and data center delivery approaches
  • Hybrid Infrastructure – the combination of infrastructure as a service (IaaS), platform as a service (PaaS), and software as a service (SaaS) continues to increase in organizations adopting the right approach to the problems for which they need solutions
  • Innovation Problem-solving – DevOps, Internet of Things (IoT), machine learning (ML), and artificial intelligence (AI) are beginning to converge and become more accessible

Several of the exhibitors at the conference are Expedient partners representing the components of our solutions. They included Arista Networks, Cohesity, Dell Technologies, VMware, and Zerto. Multiple sessions featured VMware, including two that highlighted the VMware Cloud on AWS solution and the VMware Cloud Verified software-defined data center accreditation – both of which Expedient participates in. Further, VMware previewed new technologies, including VMware Project Pacific, which aims to unify virtual machines (VMs) with containers and Kubernetes. Several of our team members attended the session to learn more about how VMware is bringing Kubernetes natively into vSphere, running containers right next to VMs and empowering developers to create and maintain cloud native applications anywhere they’re running VMware infrastructure – on-premises, at the edge, or in public and private clouds. VMware also highlighted Tanzu Mission Control, a new Kubernetes orchestration manager based upon technology from Heptio, which it acquired in 2019 and complements other technology assets such as those gained through its acquisition of Pivotal.

In explaining VMware’s containers and Kubernetes strategy, Mike Adams breaks down Project Pacific and Tanzu Mission control at Gartner IOCS 2019.

Supporting clients’ hybrid and cloud native IT needs is at the center of solutions currently offered by Expedient today as well as those being developed for future consumption supporting the shifting infrastructure boundaries and the evolution of applications. The Expedient team continuously monitors Gartner research to validate and influence our approach to solution development and ensure alignment with client needs for infrastructure services.
