Software Management, Inc. Keeps the Destination Industry on the Road with Expedient Hosting and Managed Services

Software Management, Inc. (SMI) provides sales, marketing, and customer relationship management (CRM) technology solutions for a unique industry segment known as convention and visitors bureaus or destination organizations. Founded in 1983, it celebrates its 25th anniversary in 2008.

In 2005, Software Management Inc. began offering its customers the option of implementing a hosted version of their Destination 3000™ system. This option provided smaller customers with the flexibility of accessing Destination 3000™ via the web, without the need for a local server/hardware installation.

Jennifer Reichenbach, president of SMI, described Destination 3000™ as a traditional client-server application. "It has a visual front end as well as a SQL server backend, and consists of modules that are integrated together for company-wide deployment. This differs from our traditional product offering, which we often provide for our larger clients, which requires hardware/server installation at the customer site."

She said the search for another hosting and managed services provider started in 2007, with an emphasis mainly on greater reliability. "We weren’t happy with our current hosting environment. This solution was not scalable nor did it have the redundancy needed for the uptime our customers deserve."

Along with the accessibility challenges experienced by customers, Reichenbach said they have also experienced a growth curve over the last several years last year that nearly tripled the number of Destination 3000 users.

"We really needed a provider that could keep up with this growth and provide a scalable solution long-term."

Reichenbach said Expedient was impressive from the beginning. "We walked into the facility and were so pleased with what we saw; the security is great, and they were so helpful with the transition. I feel a lot better knowing that’s where our systems are going to be from now on."

She added, "I am very confident that moving forward our partnership with Expedient will be a productive one."

SMI’s servers are located in Expedient’s State of the Art Data Center in Pittsburgh.
