Systems Delivery Engineer

Overview

Expedient Communications delivers innovative IP and telecommunications services, and is headquartered in Pittsburgh, PA.  Expedient has an immediate need for a Systems Delivery Engineer.  The individual filling this role would augment the team of 4 who have primary responsibility for the implementation, configuration, and hand off of all new systems related deals.  The Systems Delivery team supports ongoing implementation work in six markets and eight data centers spread across the northeast and Midwest.

This position is based out of the Pittsburgh or Cleveland office where the new hire will join a team of over three dozen engineers.   A strong desire to learn and expand on existing knowledge is required. Industry standard certifications are also a plus. This position reports to the Systems Delivery Manager and is based in either Pittsburgh, PA or Cleveland, OH.  There is a minimal travel requirement – 5% or less.  This position requires you to be authorized to work in the United States.

Primary Functions:

• Implement all new Systems related deals that come in for delivery
• Augment existing implementations with new services as needed
• Assist in the management and tracking of capacities/utilization for shared resources such as:
• VMware CPU, RAM, and disk
• EMC Networker and EMC Avamar backup capacity
• Shared EMC and Dell EQL storage
• Juniper firewalls, SSL VPN devices, and VPN tunnels
• Improve the day-to-day implementation process to expedite the overall delivery system

• The ideal candidate for this job must possess the following skills:
• Minimum two years work experience required, preference for at least four years
• Very strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
• Ability to work directly with customers during all implementation phases
• Outstanding troubleshooting/problem solving abilities
• Ability to clearly document delivery processes and implemented solutions
• Will have to work independently on implementations with little supervision
• Proven work experience in at least two of the following areas:
• Windows server OS installation and support
• Linux server (Red Hat/CentOS) OS installation and support
• VMware
• Preferred skills and knowledge:
• B.S. in a technical discipline.
• Backup and backup related technology experience, with EMC Networker being preferred.
• Experience with load balancing technologies such as F5 LTM and CITRIX NETSCALER platforms.
• Experience with database technologies such as MS SQL, MySQL or Oracle.
